I Am a Tree

Today is Tomorrow Beginning

Daedelus and Icarus

Kiravanu is an opera for K-6 children. It was premiered in 2008 and has its own website, www.kiravanu.com. There is also an update to the project here.

Kiravanu includes integrated learning so that it can be included in your school’s curriculum, thus avoiding the need for lots of extra-curricular rehearsals. Scores, cross-curricular learning, recordings and videos are available from the composer.

Originally written in 2004 for Sydney Grammar school, for choir, school orchestra and antiphonal percussion, this was updated in 2006 to include Orff percussion parts. To the right is the full recording. Score and parts available on request.

Originally commissioned by the NSW Department of Education and Training, Northern Sydney Region, ArtsNorth Council, for special needs students at Karonga, Cromehurst and Fisher Road Schools, this project also works well with younger primary classes.

The entire project is downloadable here, and includes scores, accompanying ostinati, lesson plans, electronic resources and backing tracks as well as sample tracks.

There are three songs which all relate to the theme of the Australian Environment: The Outback, The Sea and The City.

Part of a two year residency at Aitken College in Victoria, I am a Tree set words by year 5 students about the past and future of their school. It is written for choir and mixed media/instrumentation. Download the full score to the right and contact the composer for parts and the premiere recording.

Commissioned by Sydney Grammar Prep School, St Ives, in 2007 and set to words by John Hughes. For four solo voices (although it works very well with choir), string ensemble and solo trumpet (a solo violin version is also available). A full score is to the right. Contact the composer for parts, a video of excerpts and other versions.

A short piece for Orff Ensemble from the Symphony, which works on its own and has integrated technology elements.

New: this piece was reworked in 2009 for MLC School’s full middle school choir with string quartet, piano and solo violin and premiered at Angel Place in November that year. All sorts of resources and lesson plans are available here.

The Speaking Piano

The Speaking Piano was a commission for pianist extraordinaire Michael Kieran Harvey from the Goulburn Conservatorium. With the goal of involving primary students from the districts around Goulburn, I created a book/ebook/webapp that they could access for free as a catalyst for music making.

I worked with Little Pink Pebble, an illustrator from Singapore.
