The Paul Grabowsky Sibelius Education Kit

There’s a funny story about this one. Sibelius 5 had lots of cool things to show off. A new audio engine, the Ideas Hub, support for VST and AU plug-ins, a new view in Panorama, super-easy cues and much, much more. Here in Australia Sibelius went all out and commissioned a work from composer Paul Grabowsky. The work, In Search of Comedy, featured a solo violinist with an accompanying orchestra ‘performed’ by Sibelius and the new Essentials sound collection. It sounded something like this:

The work was played in nearly all of the Australian state and territory (sorry, Darwin) capitals and Paul even came along and played the piano part in Melbourne.

The second commission was the education kit. Sibelius asked me to write a series of lessons and composition tasks that could be completed in Sibelius based on Paul’s work, which I gladly did. These were to be given away (what nice people!) from their education website, but owing to company restructure they never saw the light of day. I like to think that they’re rather good, and it would be a shame for them never to be used, so here they are...
